A Revolutionary Light Therapy Franchise is Here

For far too long, the millions of people suffering from autoimmune skin conditions have had a tough time getting light therapy treatment.

Light therapy, also commonly known as phototherapy, is a proven way of treating skin conditions, such as psoriasis, vitiligo and eczema. The treatment uses narrowband ultraviolet light on skin cells. According to The University of Chicago Medical Center, “light therapy works by slowing down cell growth and inflammation that causes skin problems to develop.” Treatment, to be effective, needs to be done on a regular basis over the span of several weeks.

There’s only one problem. Receiving light therapy treatment has traditionally been a frustrating experience for patients.

Historically, light therapy has only been offered in large medical centers, where patient experience is low on the order of importance. Appointments are hard to come by, patients are treated like numbers, and even parking can be a nightmare. If you missed your appointment, rescheduling could take weeks, leaving you without treatment for a condition that may be painful, irritating and/or harmful to your self esteem.

If light therapy is a way for people to get their lives back, shouldn’t it be easier for people to make it a part of their lives?

This is exactly why Kristen Miller founded Array Skin Therapy. As a nurse practitioner with over 20 years of experience in the field, Kristen noticed patients faced many barriers to receiving light therapy while working as a nurse practitioner at a large medical center light treatment facility.

“I saw how effective light therapy treatment was for our patients, and at the same, I saw how poor the patient experience was – I thought, ‘there has got to be a better way to do this,'” she says. “I started Array Skin Therapy to make light therapy more accessible and convenient to the people who need it, but to also deliver an experience that’s kind, compassionate and empathetic. We’re here to make a difference – and that’s why our patients love coming back to us over and over again.”

After proving the model works in five locations in the Los Angeles and Orange County metropolitan areas of California, Array Skin Therapy is now focused on franchising to meet the incredible demand.

“We decided to franchise because we knew that this was going to be the fastest way to make an impact,” Kristen says. “There are millions of people that need this treatment, and we wanted to franchise with passionate entrepreneurs who share our mission to make light therapy treatment accessible to all that need it. We’ve also proven that this model works from a business standpoint as well. We’re proud of our unit-level economics and our ability to scale because that means that what we’re doing is working.”

Meet our CEO

Kristen Miller is a family nurse practitioner with over 20 years of experience in treating people living with chronic diseases, as well as healthcare management. Kristen’s career focus was determined after seeing the physical and emotional effects long-term conditions can have on patients and their families. Kristen has devoted her career to inspiring hope in patients and families dealing with chronic conditions, as well as developing compassionate healthcare teams.

In 2010, Kristen noticed patients faced many barriers to receiving light therapy while working as a nurse practitioner at a large medical center light treatment facility. Barriers to care included difficulty scheduling appointments, long wait times, and expensive parking. Some patients in need of treatment were placed on a waitlist and never received a call.

Kristen recognized that an alternative model was needed to increase patient access to light treatment, thereby improving patient adherence and outcomes. In 2011 Kristen launched Array Skin Therapy, an independent light treatment service built with patient convenience in mind.
